Sal Ammoniac removes build-up from the tip of your iron, which can significantly reduce its effectiveness. However, it’s not required often, and one block will likely last your entire stained glass career. If you can’t clean it, or it still doesn’t seem adequate, it’s time to replace your tip.
If you’re using our suggested Weller Iron replacing the tip is an easy task. Most solder irons still in production do have replacement tips available.
This form of ammonium chloride is used to promote rapid tinning of soldering irons and forged soldering coppers. Heat your soldering iron to its correct temperature, melt a small droplet of solder onto the block, and then rub the heated iron across the surface until the sides are tinned.
Available in a 4 or 8 oz. size.
