For the Weller100PG (our preferred soldering iron), the tip controls the temperature. There are three size options available at both 700 degrees and 800 degrees. 

We prefer and use the 3/8″ 700-degree tip. We find it to be the most effective at transferring the heat and allowing us to work at a comfortable pace.
