COS – Copper Foil Masterclass

March 11, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

$275.00 – $375.00

Cherished for its use in creating the famous Tiffany & Co. lamps. This method of stained glass creation has become the most popular throughout the United States.

Unlike the lead came method, the copper foil method offers the flexibility to create three-dimensional artwork such as lamps.

If you’re a beginner, this is the place to start! This masterclass is a great starting point for prospective hobbyists and exploring artists alike.

Choose your pattern and register for this event at the bottom of this page.

Masterclasses are held in multiple sessions. Most students complete copper foil projects in 2 – 3 sessions, each session is about 4 hours. Students set the pace and are given the freedom to move at the speed they feel comfortable.

10:30 am – 3:00 pm is typically reserved for our masterclass students on dates we hold classes.

All tools, materials, and supplies needed for the project are provided but…bring. your. glasses, seriously. Bring your readers or prescription glasses, you will be glad you did.

You will learn to complete a panel in the design of your choice using the copper foil or the “Tiffany” method of stained glass creation.

Patented by Sanford Bray on Sept 21, 1886, as “joining glass mosaics” this method soared in popularity throughout the early 1900s.

It gained notoriety with the help of Louis Comfort Tiffany’s incredible artwork and lamps showcasing what was possible in the medium.

Louis is the son of Charles Lewis Tiffany, the founder of Tiffany & Co. which still exists today. Because of this historical link, the method is often referred to as the “Tiffany” method.

You will not learn how to cut glass with your first project.

We have learned through experience, students have a much higher success rate when they can focus on mastering the medium before embarking on the journey of learning glass cutting.

Most students will take a glass cutting class after their first project and put it to use when completing their second project.

Masterclass projects vary in size, most patterns on this page fall between 10″ – 17″ on the longest side.

We are happy to create custom designs. We charge a drawing fee in addition to the class fee for converting your ideas into a stained glass pattern. Class price is determined by the number of pieces, the complexity, and the estimated number of sessions it will take to complete.

Contact us with your ideas, we are happy to discuss them!

Masterclass prices are determined by the pattern you choose. The price is influenced by the number of pieces, the complexity, and the average number of sessions it takes to complete. You can find the prices by hovering over the pattern images below.
